Review: Revenge is hardly a new concept in making films. This main theme, however, a performance style bakery backseat. Told through the All-Star votes, the story unfolds slowly but strongly. Located in rural America today, cinematography captures beautiful country and glory that is apparently fading under the weight of war and the economy. The cast skillfully fleshes of different characters, creating confidence and gives a rare level of depth. This makes tangible atmosphere and perhaps make human drama element of the actual star of the movie. The cast is all excellent and essential, however, Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson absolutely steal the show. As the villain from a bad script-to-bone, Harrelson is awesomely pathetic, just his presence on the screen inciting anxiety. Alternatively, Bale played well but troubled man condemned to watch their lives fall apart one piece at a time. Director got Scott Cooper, in an interview segment on Carson Daly. He mentioned a desire to reflect and immerse the audience in his films. In this regard, I will judge this effort should be a clear success. During some scenes, I found myself in the spirit of the actions and emotions displayed on the screen, such as fear, freedom, anxiety, stress, and in particular, relieved breath in peace. More drama than action, the tone reminds me of the post Beyond the Pines, another great drama with some flavoring crime. Also, I felt that the number of Pearl Jam, who opens and closes the film is an excellent choice for thoughtful mood, and deserves special attention. Overall, this film is done very well, despite the lack of glitter and flash of movement action. As a drama, I highly recommend to fans of the genre.
